Can you finance used or refurbished GPU servers?

Yes, you can finance used or refurbished GPU servers, starting with a single refurbished H100 server, and used clusters of $1 million or more can qualify too, depending on the program. Refurbished GPU server financing works a lot like financing new hardware, though the term is typically shorter. Here’s what used H100 and A100 servers list for, how many it takes to reach $1 million, and what to check before anyone gets paid.

How does refurbished GPU server financing work?

We pay the seller, and your company makes a fixed monthly payment with the servers as collateral. You can own them from day one on an equipment finance agreement (EFA), which runs 24 to 84 months, or take a lease of 24 to 60 months. Our data center equipment financing guide covers new builds, so this one covers what’s different once the hardware has run somewhere else.

Size decides where a used deal goes, same as a new one:

  • About $15,000 to $500,000. One or two used servers land here, and a qualifying file can be decided with no tax returns or financial statements.
  • $500,000 to $1 million. Still our standard programs, with a full financial package.
  • $1 million and up. The programs we place these deals with currently look for deals of $1MM and up, with $25MM annual revenue required and 3+ years in business preferred. These start with a short proposal request on our large-ticket financing page.

Our standard programs start around $15,000 and are laid out on our IT hardware financing page, and our guide to financing GPU servers by model shows where each system lands.

Used equipment can be financed at the larger size too, depending on the program. There is no age limit, though older equipment can be tougher to get done. With good credit, you usually don’t need a down payment, even on used equipment.

Under a year in business? You’d be underwritten as a startup, which typically means 700+ personal credit, experience in the field, working capital left after the purchase and usually some money down.

What do used H100 and A100 servers cost?

Hashrate Index put the median ask for a refurbished 8-GPU H100 server at $246,000 on August 31. Two refurbished H100 ads we checked ask $180,000 and $249,000, and one used 8-GPU A100 server lists for $94,999.

Listed asking prices we found, checked November 5, 2026, not appraisals or offers. The median rows are Hashrate Index’s index of posted asks for complete, air-cooled 8-GPU nodes, and the single-GPU row is Compute Exchange’s indicative range. Five West has no affiliation with these sellers.

I’d plan around $246,000, since the $180,000 server is out of stock and has no drives. The gap to new is smaller than you might expect. That median sits at 76% of new, and Hashrate Index puts the highest refurbished ask at 1.73 times the lowest.

GPU prices alone don’t add up to a server. Eight H100 GPUs at that range come to $208,000 to $240,000 before the chassis, CPUs, memory and networking. Read the spec table, too: one $275,000 ad we checked was titled as an H100 server, but its spec table showed one GPU.

How many used GPU servers does it take to reach $1 million?

Four to six H100 servers, or about eleven A100 servers, at the prices above:

  • H100 at $249,000: four come to $996,000, so the first switch or rack takes the deal past $1 million.
  • H100 at $180,000: six come to $1,080,000.
  • A100 at $94,999: eleven come to $1,044,989.

Everything on the deal counts toward that number, including racks, networking, cooling and power gear, plus installation on qualifying deals.

One catch: a cluster needs matching nodes, and a used-market ad may cover only a unit or two. Ask whether the seller can deliver the whole lot.

What’s the monthly payment on a refurbished GPU server?

As an estimate for an established business with nothing down, the $94,999 A100 server comes to about $3,021 a month over 36 months, and the $249,000 H100 server about $7,918. Each $100,000 you finance adds about $4,568 a month over 24 months, or about $3,180 over 36.

Estimated examples for an established business only, with no money down, on an equipment finance agreement, using the listed prices above. The bottom two rows also need a company that meets the program needs above, and whether used hardware qualifies depends on the program. Actual payments depend on credit, the equipment and the term. Not an offer.

The Quote Builder shows your own payment with no credit pull. A used server can qualify for Section 179 too, and your CPA can confirm how it applies to you.

Why does the term matter more on a used GPU server?

Because some of the hardware’s working years are already behind it, and newer gear keeps coming. NVIDIA’s DGX A100 was shipping by May 2020, and NVIDIA said H100 systems would start shipping in late 2022. H200, B200 and B300 servers are listed today, and NVIDIA said on August 26 that Vera Rubin is in full production.

Don’t count on resale, either. The 76% of new we quoted above compares what sellers were asking in August, not what anyone paid, and nobody can tell you what a used server will be worth in three years.

So I’d pick a payment you can carry even if that value drops and try to be done paying before you’d want to replace the server, which on a used H100 means starting at 24 to 36 months. Older equipment typically gets a shorter term anyway, and I’d expect an A100 to land near the short end.

The trade-off is cash flow: that $249,000 server is about $11,376 a month over 24 months, against about $7,918 over 36. Racks, power and cooling tend to last longer and can take an EFA of up to 84 months.

What should you check before buying a used GPU server?

Used and refurbished mean different things from one seller to the next, so get the definition in writing. Then ask for this before any money moves:

  • Warranty left. The ads above run from 90 days to Dell ProSupport into late 2028. Ask who backs it and get the end date. Dell says a system’s warranty may be transferred if the owner records the transfer, at Dell’s sole discretion. Compute Exchange says refurbishers usually offer 90 days to 12 months, and the original NVIDIA warranty doesn’t transfer with the unit.
  • The seller. Who owned these servers, where did they run, and why are they for sale? Match serial numbers for each server and GPU to the invoice. Expect compliance paperwork, too: one ad calls its server export restricted, and another requires end-user paperwork before shipping. Moving the hardware overseas later? Ask your attorney first.
  • Firmware. Ask for the installed versions and how you’d get updates. On DGX H100 and H200 systems, NVIDIA’s update tool comes through its Enterprise Support Portal, which takes a login.
  • Burn-in. Ask for the test logs. Compute Exchange says refurbishers typically run 24 to 72 hours under synthetic load. Once the server lands, level 4 of NVIDIA’s DCGM diagnostics takes up to about 2.25 hours on an 8-GPU H100 system. Ask for each GPU’s memory error and row-remapping history as well.
  • Power and cooling fit. NVIDIA rates a DGX H100 at 10.2 kW max and a DGX A100 at 6.5 kW max. Uptime Institute’s 2026 survey puts the typical rack at 7.8 kW, setting aside a few very dense sites, and just 24% of respondents have any racks at 30 kW or more. Four DGX H100s in one rack could draw about 41 kW. Dell’s XE9680 is air cooled, so that heat lands in your room. Confirm your room or colocation provider can take the load.

How is a used GPU deal different from a new one?

The application is the same. Here’s what to expect on a used deal:

  • The seller’s side. A dealer or refurbisher sends an invoice. Buying from another company is a private-party purchase: we run a lien search and pay the seller directly, and if the seller still owes on the servers, we pay off their lender at closing so the lien is released. Our guide to checking used equipment for liens and theft explains the search, and an attorney can look over the bill of sale.
  • The lease. Fair market value terms on GPUs depend on the program, since resale value is hard to predict, so ask us what’s possible on used servers. If you plan to keep them, an EFA or a $1 buyout lease is the simpler path.
  • The company. IT hardware loses value fast, so time in business and clean cash flow carry extra weight. For a GPU cloud, signed customer contracts and a billing history make the file stronger.
  • What else can go on it. Support agreements and installation can go on the same agreement on qualifying transactions.
  • Speed. Buying used won’t slow down a clean file, and funding can follow in as little as 24 to 48 hours once documents are signed. At $1 million and up, a credit decision typically takes 2 to 10 business days once we have a complete package.

You’ll work with one funding professional from application to funding, and if a used deal doesn’t look ready, we’ll say so.

Frequently asked questions

Can you finance a used H100 server?

Yes. Five West finances used and refurbished H100 servers from dealers, refurbishers and other companies. One server under $500,000 can be decided on the application alone on a qualifying file, and there is no age limit, though older equipment can be tougher to get done.

What is the minimum for refurbished GPU server financing?

Our usual minimum is about $15,000, and it counts on the whole bundle. The separate data center programs are for deals of $1MM and up, so a purchase under $1 million goes on our standard programs.

How many used H100 servers does it take to reach $1 million?

Four to six, depending on the price. Four servers at $249,000 come to $996,000, and six at $180,000 come to $1,080,000. Networking, racks, cooling and power gear on the same deal count toward the total.

How long can you finance a used GPU server?

Equipment finance agreements run 24 to 84 months and leases 24 to 60, but older equipment typically gets a shorter term. On a used H100, 24 to 36 months is a sensible place to start.

Do you need a down payment on used GPU servers?

With good credit, you usually don’t need a down payment, even on used equipment. Startups usually put some money down.

Can you buy used GPU servers from another company and finance them?

Yes. We run a lien search, pay the seller directly and, if the seller still owes on the servers, pay off their lender at closing so the lien is released.

Found used GPU servers worth buying?

Send the listing or the seller’s quote with one short application, and a dedicated funding professional takes it from there. At $1 million and up, start with a proposal request on our large-ticket page.
